Fold Folding Shelf Bracket

These brackets are solid. Thy can handle a lot of weight on them. I am using these on a fold down table in my shop. They were easy to install, all you have to do is make sure you measure and level properly, and they open and close with just a press of the little lever.

They do hold the table top at 90 degree, which is the bare minimum you can ask for, but that I have had bad experiences with another set with another project.

Considering the many other folding bracket options available that sell for less money and claim similar weight limits, my first question was "Why so much?". I ended up with one pair of Balin brackets and one pair of brackets from another manufacturer. The differences were startling, and I now have serious doubts about the weight rating claims of the "other" brand. Right away, even in the unboxing phase, I could easily see the obvious high quality of the Balin brackets! Where the "other" brackets used thin strips of metal for the bracing, the Balin Designs main support braces are full width and solid.

For my application of space saving foldaway miter saw extension tables, I used 3/4" Melamine- a durable but heavy material, which was easily supported by the brackets- in fact, these brackets, I'm sure, can handle much, much more than what I'm asking of them. I would have no hesitation in using these brackets on a full size shelf that carries a substantial weight load.

I ordered these to create an occasional-use sleeping perch for our two cats on a spare bedroom wall. When we have company, we like to give them a quiet place to retreat without permanently giving up floor space or adding the visual clutter of a large cat tower.

These brackets turned out to be an ideal solution. They are exceptionally sturdy, and the locking mechanism engages securely while remaining easy to release. When the perch isn't needed, it takes only a few seconds to remove the cats' bed and fold the shelf flat against the wall, keeping the room open and uncluttered.

Bottom line: If you're looking for folding shelf brackets that prioritize quality and rigidity over the lowest price, these are an excellent choice.

Once these brackets are installed, they are hardly noticeable and that is one of the nice features of the design put into the brackets. The holding mechanism is brilliant as it is simple yet strong with the upper arm locking in place as the support brace effectively falling into the mouth/cutout of the upper arm.

Folding or collapsing the table top/shelf is just as simple and very easy to do by simply and very lightly putting upward pressure on the table top/shelf while simultaneously depressing the handles at the tip of each bracket. It really doesn't get much simpler than that.

I liked the fact that the brackets collapse very compact against the wall, and when folded down, the table top/shelf does not stick out much at all aside from its thickness. Genius design put into these brackets and they were perfect for my project which was making a little work desk for my daughter in our office space. These worked out great as I was able to install a small table top at a low height, and it is out of the way when not in use.

I actually used these for a folding bench in my bedroom for putting on my shoes. It says 500 lbs limit and I come in at a whopping 150lb so, no issues there.

The brackets are heavy construction and also came with adequate screws and bolts to support that type of weight limit.

Highly recommend, for a shelf or a bench like I made.

When I ordered these, I was a bit skeptical. Ive used quite a few other folding bracket products, and while they are functional, the other products Ive used were not confidence-inspiring.

These arrived in a much larger box than expected because they were very well padded with foam. My immediate impression was that they were much heavier and higher-quality than expected. When I took them out, that initial impression was reinforced, these brackets are serious hardware. Can they really hold 2500 pounds? I dont know, but chances are whatever youre mounting them to cant hold that much weight either.

The mechanism is quite different from other brackets I've used, and is clearly a well-engineered design. If you want a set of brackets that is going to give you a really solid surface and will likely last forever, these are a great choice. The price is high, but you're getting a product that is far better than the cheaper versions.

Only one observation, and it's not really a criticism, but the shorter leg of the bracket, which is where it mounts, is pretty short. That not a problem in terms of the structural integrity of the brackets, but just keep in mind that the physics of this are going to put quite a bit of force on whatever you are mounting it to. It needs to be very securely attached. I will also say that the mounting screws are quite beefy.
