Aire Floating Shelf Bracket

You know for what some would just call this a simple shelf bracket, would be considered an insult by this bracket, it goes way beyond that. The first thing that is obvious to me is the pride that is taken in the packaging alone. Every effort was made to ensure these products could ship safely around the globe and arrive as pristine as they were when they left the facility, even at the risk of unfortunate damage sometimes caused during shipping.These brackets were shipped in a solid block of styrene that has been what appears to have been laser cut to protect to the perfect size of the finished product inside. It appears that the same or similar tech went into the cutting these brackets from a sheet of 1/4" steel, predrilled and tapered holes for flush mounting of the screws. With multiple mounting options available, all the necessary hardware along with a level and a properly sized drill bit for either mounting application are provided.The final fit and finish yields a very high-quality product in looks, design and finish with a smooth satin finish powder coated black paint. Strong enough for pretty much anything you intended to hang from a wall, and I personally think it would work very well for a mantel piece. These are heavy (like maybe even cast iron or at least heavy gauge steel) and powder coated to a nice matte black finish. As designed, they are plenty sturdy for a 12" or wider shelf and if it is 1.5" thick, the back of the shelf bracket will be completely concealed for a floating shelf look (obviously you'll see the bracket underneath, but it's nice looking). My only concern is the mounting design. Only one of the three holes can be anchored into a stud, and I would NOT trust drywall anchors for such a heavy set of brackets, a thick shelf like a piece of butcher block (which is what I'm planning), plus whatever you put on it or if someone leans on it. It would be MUCH more sturdy if the three holes for the screws were oriented vertically. I do see why they did it this way though, as that's really the only way to make it truly invisible when the shelf is on. I think I'll put the center hole on a stud and use the drywall anchors on each side for what they are worth. They did include nicely long screws for mounting and even a tiny level. So it still gets 5 stars but just consider that when selecting.

These things are massive and heavy. Each bracket is 1.8 pounds. If possible make sure you can get at least 1 screw of each bracket into a stud. If anchored properly these should easily support their 300lb rating. Would be ideal if you are mounting them to a solid wood panel or something like a 2x4 on the wide side to get all 3 screws into a solid mount. If you're only going into drywall I would probably not test the upper end of the rating. That being said, they are excellent floating shelf brackets. If you are good with wood working you could sink them into the shelf (provided it's thick enough) so they are hidden to appear more "floating" like. These would be right at home in a garage on a long wall shelf for storing multiple heavy tools and other things.
